This week at IFA TomTom will be previewing a version of its satellite navigation software for Android. Set to arrive in October, the TomTom app for Android will come with lifetime map updates, IQ route planning, lane assistance and 3D Mapping and more. HD Traffic and Speed Camera packages will be available to buy as in-app purchases.

Managing Director at TomTom Corinne Vigreux said:

“We aim to make TomTom content and services available to as many devices and platforms as we can, bringing TomTom navigation to Android smartphones is, therefore, a significant milestone for us.”

TomTom for iPhone has been available since 2009, so it has taken some time for TomTom to decide to release an Android version of the app. Android users – will you be using TomTom for Navigation or are you content with Androids built in Google Maps powered service?
