After many days spent in the court room and the short time the jury spent deliberating a final decision has been made in the Samsung Vs Apple court case. The jurors, all nine of them all shared the same view that Samsung had indeed infringed on Apple’s intellectual properties. The result from this case is that Samsung will have to pay $1,049,343,540 in damaged to Apple. The first Figure asked for by Apple was $2.5 billion however the Judge lowered this to $1,051,855,000 and then after some considerations this was then dropped down to $1,049,343,540.
Samsung did try to fight back stating that Apple had infringed some of their own patents but both the judge and jury disagreed and decided that Apple had not infringed on a single patent of Samsung. As the jury brought forward their verdict and and the judge began to read it aloud things went sour for Samsung. One of the patents Apple had filed (the bounce-back patent) Samsung was found guilty of infringement by all devices that were accused of infringing this patent. The same result happened with Apples patented two finger gestures and scrolling patent which all of Samsung’s accused devices all infringing this patent.
Most of Samsung’s devices that were accused of infringing Apples tap to zoom patent were found to be breaching the patent but Samsung got of a bit lighter with this patent compared to the others. Samsung also came under fire when the judge got to the design patents with which the jury found that Samsung had copied Apples icon layout and designs.
Apple has not stopped fighting Samsung even after winning $1,049,343,540 in damages, Apple has got another hearing against Samsung on September 20th but this time for injunctions against the offending Samsung products.
