Last night we saw the torch extinguished signalling the end of the whirlwind that has been the London 2012 Olympics. During the past 16 days a whopping 150 million tweets had been sent about the Olympics. Twitter has released some startling statistics, and quite rightly pronounced that “Twitter was your front row seat for all the action.”

The biggest moments of the competition which were measured by ‘Tweets Per Minute’ (TPM) were:

- Usain Bolt of Jamaica winning Gold in the 200m sprint: this had more than 80,000 TPM, then when Bolt won Gold in the 100m sprint there were over 74,000 TPM. Incredible!

- Andy Murray winning Gold in men’s tennis singles saw an amazing 57,000+ TPM.

Usain Bolt also took the top spot for being the most discussed athlete, following by American swimmer Michael Phelps and not forgetting our Bronze medalist Tom Daley in third place.

Each of these Olympians from 1-10 had more than 1 million Tweets each:
1.Usain Bolt (@UsainBolt)
2. Michael Phelps (@MichaelPhelps)
3. Tom Daley (@TomDaley1994)
4. Ryan Lochte (@ryanlochte)
5. Gabby Douglas (@gabrielledoug)
6. Andy Murray (@andy_murray)
7. Kobe Bryant (#GetKobeOnTwitter)
8. Yohan Blake (@YohanBlake)
9. Lee Chong Wei (@Lee_C_Wei)
10. LeBron James (@KingJames)

Moving onto the Closing Ceremony, the Spice Girls were the most tweeted about performers getting over 116,000 tweets per minute!
