MajorSecurity have found a security issue within Safari for iOS devices, the most popular browser for iOS devices. MajorSecurity explains that the issue with iOS 5.1 Safari:
“The weakness is caused due to an error within the handling of URLs when using javascript’s window.open() method. This can be exploited to potentially trick users into supplying sensitive information to a malicious web site, because information displayed in the address bar can be constructed in a certain way, which may lead users to believe that they’re visiting another web site than the displayed web site.”
MajorSecurity informed Apple of the security issue three weeks ago, the news has only become accessible to every in the last few days. We are expecting Apple to release a fix in the next few days. You can see this issue yourself if you go to the link below on any iDevice running iOS 5.1 and use the Safari browser.
